Lisa Lyon was ahead of her time. Back in the day, she was at the forefront in the face of female bodybuilding.
It was said, that she had too many intellectuals try to confine her to bodybuilding, but she was also an artist, a poet, writer, and performance artist.
She was described as the “Michelangelo’s David” but in a female form, but as often happens, there was friction among the peers and she became a “pioneer” footnote. To many, she was and still is a pioneer and ahead of her time because she took bodybuilding to an art form by giving it grace.
In this painting, by artist Eriberto Oriol, Lisa Lyon represents the balance between both male and female which was needed when she was coping with challenges that she faced. She had to use all that was within her to be a pioneer.
For some, artist Eriberto work’s is provoking, disturbing and almost as would be a large window falling, cracking and breaking into pieces. But he knows that in life, sometimes you have to learn to “Dance on a slippery floor.”
When you are in the forefront, you need to use fear and the underworld guardians to energize you. You need to act on instinct, have tenacity, spontaneity, and use the genius of the human spirit to find the treasures and to “Save the prince.”
